Introduction to the School of Cyberspace Security

Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) has been cultivating talents and conducting scientific research in information security since 2000. In 2016, it was among the first in China to be authorized to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of Cyberspace Security; in 2017, the School of Cyberspace Security was formally established; in 2019, it established a Cyberspace Security Postdoctoral Research Center; in 2021, its Information Security undergraduate program was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program; in 2024, the school was selected for the National Model Program for First-Class Cybersecurity School Construction.

The School of Cyberspace Security fully implements the new philosophy for talent development in the new era, upholding the strategic priority of talent leadership. It has now formed a high-level faculty team composed of distinguished scholars and leading discipline experts. In the past three years, the school has recruited 5 national-level talents, 2 IEEE Fellows, 13 national-level talents on flexible arrangements (including academicians, IEEE Fellows, national-level leading talents, etc.). Serving the national strategy of building China into a strong cyber power and focusing on the frontiers of cyberspace security science and technology, while leveraging NPU's characteristic strengths in aeronautics, astronautics, and marine engineering, the school undertakes numerous national-level cybersecurity research tasks in fields such as cryptography and system security, artificial intelligence security, unmanned system security, and industrial control & IoT security. Since its establishment, the school's research capabilities have been significantly enhanced, having undertaken several major national-level key research projects, including the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has won multiple national and provincial/ministerial-level science and technology awards.

Recruitment Disciplines

Cyberspace Security, Cryptography, Artificial Intelligence, and other related interdisciplinary fields.

Basic Qualifications

Comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess good scientific ethics, be passionate about higher education, and actively practice the spirit of scientists in the new era.

Available Positions

Positions include: Chair Professor, Leading Talent, Young Talent, NPU Aoxiang Young Fellow, Tenure-Track Professor and Tenure-Track Associate Professor, Postdoctoral Researcher, and Full-time Research Personnel (7 categories in total).

1. Chair Professor

Requirements: Lead international scientific and technological frontiers; achieve systematic and groundbreaking accomplishments in fundamental research; achieve landmark scientific and technological achievements in major national science and technology missions; typically corresponding to top-tier strategic scientists recognized by their peers globally.

2. Leading Talent

Requirements: Conduct prospective and pioneering research in their discipline, gaining high recognition from peers domestically and internationally; make significant contributions to social development and scientific and technological progress aligned with major national needs; typically national-level leading talents who have made substantial contributions in discipline construction, scientific research, and talent cultivation.

3. Young Talent

Requirements: Hold a doctoral degree; be under 40 years of age; have held formal teaching or research positions at renowned universities, research institutions, or R&D centers of well-known enterprises domestically or overseas; typically outstanding young talents who have achieved high academic accomplishments in their field and possess the potential to become leading figures.

Support & Benefits:

(1) Appointment: Career-establishment (bianzhi) position, appointed as Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, with senior professional title.

(2) Salary: The university provides a competitive annual salary + expert fees and monetary subsidies + performance bonuses + outstanding contribution awards, with no upper limit; the school/research institute provides additional rewards.

(3) Research Support: Ample research funding; guaranteed at least one doctoral student quota annually for the first three years after appointment; salaries for postdoctoral researchers recruited within the first three years will be fully covered by the university.

Applicants for the National Overseas Young Talents Program can simultaneously apply for the "Shaanxi Provincial Talent Program" and the university's "NPU Aoxiang Young Fellow." If selected for both national and provincial programs, the higher level of support applies; exceptionally outstanding candidates in relevant fields may receive additional support through special university funds.

4. NPU Aoxiang Young Fellow

Requirements: Hold a doctoral degree; be under 40 years of age; ideally have more than 3 consecutive years of overseas research experience, having not yet returned to China or having returned for less than 1 year; meet the academic standards for a Tenure-Track Professor position; have already shown promise in the relevant field, possessing the potential to grow into a national-level young talent.

Support & Benefits:

(1) Appointment: Career-establishment (bianzhi) position, appointed as Tenure-Track Professor (senior professional title), eligible for appointment as Doctoral Supervisor through relevant procedures.

(2) Salary: The university provides a competitive annual salary + performance bonuses + research and other income + personalized school rewards, with no upper limit.

(3) Research Support: Ample research funding.

(4) Living Benefits: Expert subsidies provided. Children have access to NPU's top-tier kindergarten, primary, and secondary educational resources (nationally top-ranked).

5. Tenure-Track Professor and Tenure-Track Associate Professor

Tenure-Track Professor applicants should be under 40; Tenure-Track Associate Professor applicants should be under 35. Must meet the respective academic standards.

(1) Appointment: Career-establishment (bianzhi) position; Tenure-Track Professor receives senior professional title, Tenure-Track Associate Professor receives associate senior professional title.

6. Postdoctoral Researcher (Special Support / Regular)

Requirements: Doctoral degree obtained within the past 3 years. Special Support Postdoctoral applicants should be under 32 and meet the academic level of an Assistant Professor; Regular Postdoctoral applicants should be under 35.

(2) Career Path: During the appointment, those meeting the standards for Tenure-Track Professor or above may apply for a pre-appointment as a university tenure-track faculty member; upon appointment, they will be managed under the corresponding position and career path.

7. Full-time Research Personnel

Requirements: Generally under 45 years of age; meet the academic standards set by the school and research group for the position.

(2) Career Path: Clear development channels; those meeting the standards for university tenure-track or long-term faculty positions may apply to transfer according to relevant policies and procedures.
